Helly Hansen realise that as much as 80% of a garment’s environmental footprint is determined in the design phase. In this phase, Helly Hansen specify materials and constructions dictating the footprint upstream in the supply chain, but also the footprint at end-of-use for the product, which doesn’t have to be end-of-life for the material. By, for example, constructing the garment in one material, they are making it a more valuable resource in a circular system and are enabling textile-to-textile recycling. Helly Hansen are committed to continue advocating for the responsible use and enjoyment of the oceans, mountains and the greater outdoors.
At Helly Hansen, 55% of our fibers in textiles and nonwovens are comprised of polyester raw materials. We aim for at least 50% of our polyester and polyamide fibers to be recycled by 2025. Almost all of their nonwoven insulations contain 80% post-consumer recycled polyester. Helly Hansen also have managed to replace around 70% of our fleece fabrics with recycled content. They are steadily increasing the volume of recycled materials every season, in line with recycled polyester becoming more accessible.
