According to the calendar, spring has arrived and summer will be soon to follow. Although, you wouldn’t be able to tell here at Nordic Outdoor Head Office in Edinburgh. Nonetheless, the team here are determined to get their summer kit on and set off on some sunshine adventures.
As you know, we have some fantastic new kit in for our Spring/Summer 2018 collection. It’s almost impossible to pick a favourite! We gave our store managers a ring and asked them what items were essentail for a summer outfit in the outdoors.
For a lot of us outdoor enthusiasts, the t-shirt tan is a main accessory in our summer outfits. All you need to complete this look is a t-shirt and the sun. Unfortunately, Nordic Outdoor can’t supply you with guaranteed sunshine. However, we have a range of fantastic t-shirts for you to choose from to complete this timeless summer look. Of course, we advise you apply suncream to avoid the less popular tomato look. Our t-shirts range from technical silk/merino mix tees to your everyday cotton tee, so there really is a wonderful selection to pick from.
We understand, however, that on some summer days in the UK, it might just be cool enough to wear a long-sleeved top (which, coincidently, is a great way to avoid a t-shirt tan). As you know, wool is a fantastic material which is used for a great deal of outdoor gear. Although it is used for a lot of winter/autumn gear, you can also use it for summer and spring! Wool insulates well against heat from your surroundings, which gives it a cooling effect in the heat.
The summer gets a lot of us excited for all kinds of adventures, from solo wild camping in the forest to family camping trips by the sea. No matter the intensity of the activity, it’s always beneficial to have a good pair of shorts or trousers for your summer activities. We believe you should begin with your trousers when building your outdoor outfit. To find out more about why we think this, check out one of our previous blogs here.
There is nothing quite like gathering around a campfire after a long hot day of being out in nature. Even in the height of summer, the evenings can bring a certain chill to the air that makes us reach for something warm to layer up . A simple hoodie or jumper will do the trick, as they are lightweight and won’t take up too much room in your backpack.
For those of us who like the more active summer activities like hiking in the hills, we know how important it is to have the right kit. Depending on the weather, it’s a good idea to bring along a jacket. Even if it’s just a stroll in the park, it’s always smart to have a light jacket with you in preparation for the unpredictable weather. Although we would like to think it will be sunny all day every day this summer, we know Scotland has a tendency to rain on our parade--which is why sometimes you have to reluctantly take out your waterproof gear. On the plus side, you can use anything waterproof all year round: which makes it a good investment, no matter the season!
We can't wait to set off on Summer adventures and try out the new gear. We would love to hear about your adventures and what summer gear is your favourite! Let us know on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
